Lekwa comes clean

A recent photo of the Vaal River.

The Lekwa Municipality released a press statement stating that they are abstracting raw water from the Vaal River  for the following reason.

There are algae in the river which is resulting in the poor water quality of municipal water.

Algae are plants like organisms growing in different environments.

They are found throughout the world and cause problems in water treatment plants, drinking water supplies and rivers.

They can be introduced to water through wind, storms and rain.

Nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrogen contribute to the formation of algae in the river.

The municipality is in the process of correcting this matter and would like to apologise to the community.
