Sakhile teacher’s murder case postponed

Mr Victor Mdluli appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 19 April and the case was postponed to 17 May for further investigation and acquiring the services of a new attorney.

He is facing murder and obstructing or defeating the course of justice charges.

Mr Mdluli was arrested in connection with the murder of Ms Penelope Boikanyo, who was a teacher at Thuto-Thebe Secondary School, and was granted R3 000 bail on 23 March.

Ms Boikanyo was stabbed to death at her home in Sakhile on 2 March.

According to the Sakhile Police, she was found lying in a pool of blood inside the house.

The police said Mr Mdluli, who is also a teacher at the same school, was with the deceased in the house upon their arrival.

According to them, he tried to stab himself in the stomach in their presence, but was stopped.

The police confirmed that emergency services personnel certified that Ms Boikanyo died on the scene.

Mr Mdluli was taken to the Standerton Hospital because of the injuries sustained during the fight.

It is suspected that a fight broke out between the couple and led to the stabbing.
