Municipal employees fear for their safety

Municipal
Businessmen sing outside the town hall after a meeting.

Lekwa municipal employees refused to go back to work on 7 March over safety concerns.

The municipal manager, Ms Gugulethu Mhlongo-Ntshangase, and employees were locked in a meeting regarding disruption of duties, following the businesses protest.

Local businesses have been closing most, if not all, Lekwa offices since 1 March, alleging gross corruption.

In an almost two hour meeting, Ms Ntshangase tried to allay workers’ fears and said they should get back to work.
