Women’s electricity woes lead to protest on R23/Johannesburg Road

The Ext 8 protesters sing and dance on the R23.

A  30-odd women protested on the R23/Johannesburg Road on 8 June over lack of electricity in Ext 8, Sakhile.

According to the furious group, they have been without electricity for almost three years.

They used rocks to close the road and burned old clothes.

“We are not going to hurt anyone, we just want to be heard,” they said.

The Standerton Police arrived and tried to restore calm, but failed.
