Lekwa Municipality’s contract with AfriRent has allegedly expired over non-payment.
According to unconfirmed reports, Lekwa and AfriRent had signed a month to month contract after their three-year-contract had expired.
The traffic department, among others, are currently without vehicles to perform their respective duties.
Kasselman Security Services sent a message on their group on 2 November where the public was informed that Lekwa confirmed that all their refuse trucks were broken and they could not specify a date when they will be in service again.
The municipality however, did use an excavator to collect refuse from residential areas and some community members used their own bakkies.
A municipal request for written quotations for the supply of refuse trucks was issued, giving the deadline of not later than noon on 8 November.
